Brendan Fraser Gives Touching Critics Choice Awards Speech
There was not a single dry eye in the house at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards after Brendan Fraser delivered a moving speech upon accepting his trophy.
The 54-year-old Hollywood star won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a morbidly obese man in the 2022 psychological drama, “The Whale”.
As he took to the stage after presenter Angela Bassett declared him the recipient, Fraser started tearing up and took several breaths before giving his speech which was characterised by tears and overwhelming gratitude.
“Thank you for this honour, Critics Choice Association,” he nervously started at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
After sharing a few jokes, Fraser emotionally continued: “This movie, ‘The Whale’, it’s about love and redemption. It’s about finding the light in a dark place and I’m so lucky to have worked with an ensemble that is incredible and includes Hong Chau, who should have her own movie based on every character she’s ever played.”
He gave recognition to everyone involved in the film and added a few inspiring words for those battling with obesity and mental health troubles, before walking off stage to a standing ovation.
